BJ and Ann Wakely – Founders

BJ Wakely

My wife Ann and I have been married for 39 years this year.  We have two beautiful adult daughters that are married to Godly men who provide and protect them.

I have been working in the Employee Benefits arena for over 30 years, owning my own business with clients up and down the Front Range.

We have a dog and two cats that keep us active and entertained. In my spare time, I do like to get to the gym, hike, read, and catch some Avalanche hockey games.

As a family, we have had many blessings and many trials but all in all, our faith has kept us together and has given us the wisdom to overcome adversity.

Originally, according to the Old Testament in the Bible, a ‘burnt offering” was a blood sacrifice to atone for our sins. We like the meaning because we want to offer support to others that are struggling and that is part of the reason we came up with this business name. We hope that the recipients of our support can find peace, comfort, joy and trust in God.

I have been happily married to BJ for 39 years & we have spent the majority of our marriage living in Colorado after growing up together in Lincoln, NE. I spent the last 40 years working as an RN in many different areas of medicine, finishing up my career in the Hospice field and am newly retired. I love to hike in the mountains, paddleboard with our beautiful daughters and take photographs of the amazing wildlife in our area.  We enjoy watching Colorado Avalanche hockey and the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. We are members of Brave Community Church and volunteer with several organizations here in our local community. We currently have one rescued hound mix dog and 2 cats that keep us very occupied.

My husband BJ & I started A Burnt Offering as a way to give back after we have been incredibly blessed by others following the tragic loss of our forever home in the Marshall Fire in 2021. We were blessed by people we did not know, those that we did & cannot thank the Lord enough for all He has provided our family. Our blessings are meant to be shared and our desire is to bring others hope, a bit of financial relief and most importantly, prayers.

I am married to my husband, Jesse and currently live in Denver with our rescue dog, Albert. I have worked many years as a registered nurse, and most recently, as a nurse practitioner specializing in oncology. In my free time, I love to read, run and be outdoors. I am so thankful to be a part of A Burnt Offering, as I know firsthand how even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact.

I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, and have called the Denver area home for more than 15 years. My wife, Hallie, and I live in a suburb of Denver  with our dog, Albert. We enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and taking on the never-ending list of projects around our home. I also enjoy golf and try to make the most of Colorado’s summers whenever I can.

Professionally, I am a CPA with a background in public accounting, corporate accounting, and finance leadership.

Although Colorado has become home, I remain closely connected to my Australian roots and family. I value faith, service, and meaningful relationships, and believe in showing up for others in practical ways. I value genuine relationships, thoughtful conversation, and being part of communities where people show up for one another.

I’m thrilled to be a part of A Burnt Offering! I’m a Colorado native and currently live in Westminster, Colorado with my husband. We have two fur babies, our black lab (Moose) and a calico cat (Callie), and our first baby on the way.

My husband and I have been attending Brave Church, where we met, for over 4 years now. We feel very blessed to be part of such a Godly community and are excited to do our part in this ministry. I have been an elementary school teacher for 7 years, teaching all grades K-4. In my spare time, you can find me baking, hiking, reading, and faithfully cheering on my favorite football team (go Huskers!) and hockey team (go Avs!). We are very fortunate to live so close to our family and love getting to spend time all together.

I am a proud husband to a beautiful wife living here in Westminster, Colorado. I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but moved to Colorado over 10 years ago. After moving here, I fell in love with the mountains and all the extreme sports that Colorado has to offer.  In my free time you can find me playing golf (in the summer) or shredding the gnar on my snowboard (in the winter).

I have explored a couple of different fields of work, including building golf carts, chasing hail storms, and selling snowboards online as a personal curator. Currently, I am self-employed and have been in real estate for the past 4.5 years. I work with investors who are buying and selling distressed homes throughout Colorado mainly as fix and flips or buy and holds.

As a faithful follower of Christ, the Lord has guided myself and my wife to be a part of this very caring and selfless group of believers in A Burnt Offering. We believe the Lord has a reason and plan for all things in life.  I am very excited to see what the Lord has in store as we serve in this ministry.

Proverbs 3:6- Seek his will and he will show you which path to take.

Daughter. Sister. Friend.

Wife. Mom. Nonnie.

CHILD OF GOD

I come from a big, loud, and loving Italian family; the ‘lead’ sibling of six. I’ve lived in the Denver area my whole life. When my kids were little I used to tell them they had to live Sunday-dinner-distance from home. While they aren’t that close, they’re not too far either. My daughter lives on the Western slope. She and her husband have two daughters. My son, the younger of my kids, lives in Northern Colorado. He and his wife have a son.

Those three grandbabies are my heart walking around outside my body and my favorite way to spend my time these days!

Besides being Nonnie, I am avid reader and word puzzler. I enjoy cooking, especially exploring and trying new recipes, and am always up for hosting a gathering. Good food, good wine, and good fun guaranteed!

I retired from teaching the same year we became empty-nesters. A few years later, my husband suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.

BUT GOD. GOD IS IN MY STORY. (Words I  literally just heard on the radio as I write this!) God showed up–had been and still is–in so many ways, big and bigger. Not by accident or coincidence  (like the song I just heard), but by His mighty sovereignty.

I have been attending BSF since 2018 and also attend a Bible study at my church. For ten years my good friend and I hosted a group of women every month where our focus was the word of God and our relationship with the LORD.

My prayer is that serving here will allow me to express God’s love and goodness and share His love with others.

My husband and I have been married for 38 years and live in Canton, Georgia by way of Nebraska and Kansas City. While we don’t have children, we are proud to claim 6 nieces and nephews and 3 grandnieces (with one on the way) as our own. I’m a retired Family Nurse Practitioner and spent my career working in oncology with a primary focus in breast cancer. My hobbies include outdoor activities, exercise, reading and spending time with my family, husband and dog Charlie. In retirement, I’m involved in a program that mentors women toward spiritual growth and Stephen Ministry which provides Christ-centered care for those undergoing life challenges.
